Contrast Cannon

Just shoot the targets. It's just like Putt-Putt! (Except that gravity behaves in a thoroughly bizzare way...)

Energuy!

Take Energuy by the hand and show him how to save energy, and watch his goofy dances! While you're doing it, bang him against the ceiling or drive him into the floor!

It's fun! It's violent! It's educational! It's... Well, it's something cool. Or warm. Or energy efficient. Or painful. Or something...

Click the title. Find the star. How you do that is where the fun comes in.

GAME: Spellblazer

Bejewelled meets D&D meets Pokemon.

When they say "patrol the area", it means defeat monsters on the red and yellow paths, turning them green, then you go back to the pulsing city and get your reward.

(Oh, and you can skip the intro. It's long and doesn't say much...)

Hedgehog Launch

Buy stuff. Launch your hedgehog into space with a rubber band, and, maybe, some rockets.

Didn't make it? Buy more stuff and try again.

(You don't actually have to spend money. And no hedgehogs are harmed. And it's not really space. And the ending - after the credits - is really kind of sad...)

Trogdor

This game is so much more fun because of the voiceovers from Strong Bad!

Totem Destroyer

This game is amazingly addictive. Knock away the blocks, but don't let the totem guy hit the ground. Level 24 is when I got tired of it...

Here's a paper airplane thrown from the 31st floor of a building in New York City. Something else to do whenever I get to visit the Big Apple...

The Cast of Spongebob Squarepants in Classic Movies

This was apparently done at the Annie Awards, where the Spongebob Squarepants cast (M.C. Tom Kenny, Rodger Bumpass, Carolyn Lawrence and Bill Fagerbakke) tried to prove that they shouldn't be typecast...

Notice that it doesn't actually seem to work as a PHONE!

(Click the title to go to the link.)

Yes, they spelled "spidey" without the "e". If you like being a web-slinging hero, my guess is that this will not be what you expect.

ROBOT: The Bristle Bot

Make a robot out of a toothbrush, a watch battery and a "pager motor" (the little motor that makes pagers and cell phones vibrate.

(As with almost all of these, click the title to go to the link.)

GAME: Virus

Looks old school. Be sure to read the instructions BELOW the game panel. It tells you how to use the bombs. You'll never guess how to use the bombs.

Interact 10 Ways

It's absolutely amazing how long you can just click and click and click and click and click and click and click and... Where did the last six hours go?

GAME: Ragdoll Avalanche

Don't let the spikes hit the stick figure. Spikes are VERY BAD for stick figures...

SCOUTING?: Animated knots

I'd write more about this site, but I'm all tied up at the moment.

(OK, I'm sorry. Those responsible for that truly miserable joke have been fired. I'll tie knot to do it again.)

OK, so these are Dad's cool sites, and Dad thinks this is extremely cool.

Very cool strategy game. Read the rules first.

GAME: Flight of the Hamsters

Make your hamster sore like, well, like hamsters were never meant to soar....

Will It Blend? http://www.willitblend.com

This site is getting really popular. The Blendtec blender people put just about everything in their blenders: golf balls, light bulbs, an iPod.... Go to the "Don't Try This at Home" section. (And the "crowbar" is a bait-and-switch, BTW.)

Also, while I was there, I stumbled upon this short and funny video. It's not what you think it is.

Updated Snake Game

Back in the day, we used to play a game called snake, where you had to eat the bits of food, which made you grow longer, only you couldn't touch yourself or the wall. Single color snake. Four drections. Keyboard only. No mouse. No music.

And we were thankful.

The Dots Game

You know, the one we play in restaurants and stuff where you've got to make boxes and keep your opponent from making boxes? This is a computer single-player version of that.

Play

Fun shockwave flash movie. When it says "Play", click to start it.

Punch through the ice

For some reason, it's called the "Nex" game. You're this guy running along and there are these big walls of ice in your way. Click at the right time and you punch through. Don't click and, well, you don't.

The Very Long Pi Song

In case you every have to memorize the first, say, hundred or so digits of pi, maybe you can sing this catchy song!

The Never-Ending Dugong (Manatee) Song

It doesn't have wings, because that would be silly.

Looking for Pie

Fairly simple Mario-like platform game with a little blob that really likes pie....

Flying Around in Google Maps

You can fly the little airplane around New York, or Disneyland, or Paris, or ...

Use the arrow keys for up and down, left and right. A to go faster. Z to go slower. Space bar to fire bullets, though I can't figure out why...

Pool Tricks

Nonlinear Cornstarch

The third man listed on this video's title (Harry L. Swinney), graduated from Rhodes College (my alma mater). I get to hear him speak once.

The cornstarch and water mixture sits on a vibrating table that shakes it really hard and really fast. The results (through the "magic" of nonlinear physics), look truly bizarre. Watch the whole thing through...

NFL Rule Changes for 2006

This is an incredibly cool video. A little more information at this blog.

Disaster Map

If you're ever think that you're feeling too good about the world, this rapidly updating map of earthquakes, radiation leaks, volcanos, bird flu, and more should put you back into an appropriate level of "AAAAAAAH!!!!!"

(Or, you could just feel good when none of that stuff is too close to YOU...)

The Cool Calvin and Hobbes Collection

That is, of course, John Calvin, the 16th century theologian, and Thomas Hobbes, the 17th century philosopher.

The other clips on the site are cool too.

Make your own Trampoline Game

You make the game out of ball bearings, baloons, peanut cans and wooden dowels.

Sunday (no, Saturday) in the park (no, Wisconsin) with George (well, somebody there was probably named George.)

This is pretty cool.

Rocket Muppets

Because what Ernie's friend Bert always wanted was a rocket stuffed up each leg...

Yeah, y'all need more games...

Clear skulls of the same color from the board, eh? There's a timer, eh?

Magic Trick (but REALLY freaky)

OK, so this is a bit scary, so don't watch it if it's going to freak you out.

You know who you are.

It's only a trick. Here is a story that talks about it over at Snopes.

Fire Rainbow

Just so you don't think this is photoshopped or anything, have a look at the amazing "Fire Rainbow" at the myth-debunking site Snopes.com. They explain it too.

The Lyrebird Video

Stay with this one. Don't give up just because nothing blows up in the first ten seconds. You'll be amazed.

The lyrebird in Australia has the most amazing song, or, rather songs. The spot was voted the favorite segment by the incredible David Attenborough on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Seriously, you'll want to talk about this one.

GAME: COLOR box

Something like Tetris, but with single blocks, and their different colors, and there's no time problems, so I guess it's not really like Tetris....

DANCING: I guess....

So this guy invents a suit that lets him make music by dancing. And then he writes a computer program to let you "choreograph" his dance.

Weird. You'll love it.

From the producers of Rocketboom, it's a show for kids.

Rock Paper Scissors 25

This is the site where the 25-item Rock/Paper/Scissors/Dragon/Alien/Cockroach/... game is outlined.

Spanish Castle Optical Illusion

OK, it's an optical illusion.

There's this picture of a castle which looks kind of yellow and blue. You stare at it for 30 seconds. (You can blink.) Then, without taking your eyes off the picture, you move your mouse onto it. For an instant, it's color, then it goes to black and white.

If you move your mouse onto it without staring, it's just a black and white picture.

FUNNY, SCIENCE: Rube Gold-burger

From the Zoom folks: make the Rube Goldberg device put together lunch for the TV crew.
